‘Reefer Madness’ spills into the street with ‘protests’
YOUNGSTOWN — A downtown theater company accused of promoting pot smoking intends to clear the air.
The Oakland Center for the Arts will hold a counter-demonstration Friday against a group that it says is just blowing smoke.
The brouhaha was sparked by the Oakland’s current production, “Reefer Madness.”
And it’s all just theater. So downtown workers on their lunch hour who see it should just mellow out.
The publicity stunt for “Reefer Madness” will begin at the Oakland, 220 W. Boardman St., at 11:30 a.m. and proceed to the courthouse area and back.
To prepare for the counter-protest against the fictitious group Upstanding Citizens Against Marihuana, the Oakland will hold a sign-making party from 8 to 10 p.m. tonight at the theater. Anyone who wants to join in can just show up. To learn more, call (330) 718-5515 or e-mail oaklandopenmic@gmail.com.
