Liberty police investigating sexual assault against teen girl

LIBERTY — Township police are investigating allegations of a sexual assault against a 14-year-old girl.

According to police reports, the girl, who lives in Leavittsburg, told police she was visiting her sister in the township in March when a 24-year-old male family member asked her to perform a sex act under the threat of not seeing her nieces anymore.

The girl told officers she performed the sex act, but did not tell anyone out of fear and shame. Family members noticed mood changes in the girl and began to ask questions, reports said.

The family reported the matter to police Monday.
