Fire reported in GM Lordstown’s body shop, no injuries

LORDSTOWN — Production was expected to resume Thursday after a fire in the body shop of General Motors’ Lordstown plant.

A small fire broke out about 4 a.m. today. It is thought that equipment that dries cars in the body shop malfunctioned, but the cause of the fire is being investigated, said Chris Lee, a GM spokesman.

Nine workers in the body shop at the time were evacuated safely. Lee wasn’t sure how the fire was extinguished, but the Lordstown fire department responded.

Production was scaled back today, and workers were sent home early. Normal production was expected to resume Thursday, Lee said.
