Body shop fire at GM Lordstown scales back production

LORDSTOWN — Production is being scaled back today at General Motors’ Lordstown plant after a fire in the body shop.

A small fire broke out about 4 a.m. It is thought that a equipment that dries cars in the body shop malfunctioned, but the cause of the fire is being investigated, said Chris Lee, a GM spokesman.

Nine workers in the body shop at the time were evacuated safely. Lee wasn’t sure how the fire was extinguished, but the Lordstown fire department responded.

Production should return to normal Thursday, he said.
