Softball loses
CANFIELD — Green Bay defeated the YSU softball team 6-4 in the regular-season finale for the Penguins (8-40, 4-19 Horizon League).
The Phoenix (18-23, 7-13) took a 6-0 lead in the top of the sixth.
YSU scored twice in the sixth and twice in the seventh. Freshman Haley Thomas and sophomore Kim Klonowski each went 2-for-4 to lead the Penguins offensively.
The eighth-seeded Penguins will face fifth-seeded Butler on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Horizon tournament in Pendleton, Ind.

Giuriceo still unbeaten
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Jake Giuriceo of Struthers remained undefeated as a professional boxer in a welterweight bout Saturday at the War Memorial Arena.
Giuriceo (2-0) scored a unanimous decision over Aaron Anderson (3-4) of Knoxville, Tenn., in a four-round contest.
All three judges favored Giuriceo on their cards by 40-36.
Blaney in accident
RICHMOND, Va. — Dave Blaney was involved in an accident on the eighth lap and could not continue at the NASCAR Sprint Cup-Crown Royal Presents the Russ Friedman 400 race late Saturday.
Blaney earned $67,424 for the race held at the Richmond International Raceway.
Reardon to be honored
CLEVELAND — Ursuline High School football coach Dan Reardon will be presented the Paul Brown Award at the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation’s scholar-athlete banquet.
The dinner will be held May 11 at LaCentre in Westlake.
Reardon led the Fighting Irish to a 15-0 season including a 21-0 shutout in the state Div. V championship game.

HARTFORD — Danny Holtgraver (Warren Harley-Davidson 410 Sprints), Jim Weller, Jr. (Gibson-Governor Insurance Agency Big Block Modifieds), Scott Stiffler (Gibson-Governor Insurance Agency E-Mods), Brandon Spithaler (Warren Harley-Davidson Limited Sprints), Danny Holtgraver and Bob Felmlee led the 22-car field to the green at Sharon Speedway Saturday.
Felmlee grabbed the lead for the first seven laps as Holtgraver got by and would go on to lead the final 18 laps for his second career Sharon victory.

Pittsburgh Marathon
PITTSBURGH — Kassahun Kabiso, a native Ethiopian who now lives in Washington, edged Jim Jurcevich by three seconds to win the men’s division in the first Pittsburgh Marathon held in six years.
Kabiso, 25, was timed in 2 hours, 22 minutes and 51 seconds on Sunday, pulling away a few steps from the finish line to edge Jurcevich, 32, of Columbus, Ohio and win the $4,000 first prize. Jurcevich finished in 2:22.54.
Kristin Price, a former North Carolina State runner, ran away from the rest of the women’s field by winning in 2:36.33 — or more than five minutes ahead of Phebe Ko, 26, of Baltimore. The 27-year-old Price also won $4,000.
Sapphire Sky wins Bouwerie Stakes
NEW YORK — Sapphire Sky remained unbeaten on a wet track Sunday, easily winning the $109,000 Bouwerie Stakes by 43‚Ñ4 lengths in the slop at Belmont Park.
After ranging into contention with a four-wide move on the turn, Sapphire Sky took charge turning for a home—a move that surprised jockey John Velazquez.
Dynamo prevails, 2-0
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Stuart Holden and Brian Ching scored goals as the Houston Dynamo defeated the short-handed New England Revolution 2-0 on Sunday to snap a six-game regular-season winless streak in the series.
Pat Onstad had to make just one save for his third shutout of the season for Houston (2-2-2), which had been 0-3-3 in its previous six regular-season matches with New England (2-2-2).
