BASEBALL

Girard 6-3, Niles 5-6

KENT — The Indians and Red Dragons split a Sunday doubleheader at Kent State University. In the Indians’ win, A.J. Weiber had two hits and scored twice while Tellen Brimingam doubled. Evan Bollinger tripled for the Red Dragons. In Niles win, winning pitcher Bollinger’s three hits drove in three runs and included a double. Mike Watson tripled. Patrick Rhodes had two RBIs for the Indians.

TENNIS

Boardman High’s Robert Salcedo l won the First Singles Flight of the Federal League Tournament. Salcedo won his first round match against Ike Mann of Canton McKinley by a score of 6-0, 6-0. In his semifinal match, he defeated Chase Wilson of Lake, 6-1, 6-0. In the final, he defeated Nathan Kanam of Massillon Jackson, 6-4, 6-1. Salcedo trailed 4-3 before rallying. Also for the Spartans, Mario Leone finished fourth in the third singles flight. Both Boardman doubles teams won the backdraws finishing fifth respectively. In first doubles were Joe Hosa and Greg Ferenchak. The second doubles team had Kyle Blase and Andrew Macala. Also competing was Kevin O’Neil who had one win with two losses at second singles.
