OVI Task Force arrests 7
BOARDMAN — The Mahoning County OVI Task Force arrested seven drivers during a sobriety checkpoint from 11 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday on Boardman-Poland Road near South Avenue.
The seven drivers charged with operating a vehicle while impaired had an average blood-alcohol content of 0.106, police said. The legal limit is 0.08.
There were 14 other citations issued, including two for driving under suspension.
Law school scholarships
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Bar Association Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships to attend law school.
The foundation is the charitable branch of the Mahoning County Bar Association and has awarded scholarships to law students for about 20 years.
The foundation will award several scholarships. In addition to the general scholarship, there also are scholarships in memory of Atty. Irwin I. Kretzer and Atty. Harlan Small.
Scholarship applications are available by calling the bar association at (330) 746-2933 or by e-mail, mcarroll@mahoningbar.org. They also are available by contacting Dr. Paul A. Sracic, Youngstown State University Political Science Department, at (330) 941-3436.
Applications must be received by the foundation no later than May 20 to be considered.
The recipients will be recognized at the annual election banquet June 29 at the Youngstown Country Club in Liberty.

YOUNGSTOWN — The George Wydell Jones Memorial Team is asking for volunteers to help honor veterans this Memorial Day by marking graves with flags at Oak Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Annual Day of Giving
EAST PALESTINE — The city’s seventh annual Day Of Giving, or Dog Days Event, will be Saturday throughout the community.
Each year, hundreds of area residents volunteer to clean, paint, plant or participate in a variety of other beautification projects. Monetary contributions to cover the cost of supplies and refreshments are also accepted.
This year, registration forms are available at the East Palestine Municipal Building, 144 North Market St.; the East Palestine Library; and at East Palestine schools.
Participants are asked to report to the Park Community Center between 8 and 9 a.m. Saturday to sign in as a volunteer.
The 2009 committee members are Joann Knight, Gary Clark, Tamra Hess, Sandy Wales, Jim Wilson, Greg Reeves, Teresa Sprowls, Brett Todd, Larry Hoffmeister, Cindy Clark, Denny Sugar, Tom Inchak and Bob McElroy.
