On June 18, June McFate of Bessemer was inducted into the New Castle Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
McFate is active in area leagues, such as the Wednesday Morning Homemakers and Variety Mixed, both at Holiday.
June served as New Castle WBA president for the past 15 years and has also been a certified coach for 11 years.
She has bowled in national tournaments and many state tournaments, including a 44th consecutive that she returned from in Lancaster last weekend.
“That’s 44 years without missing,” said McFate, who has five grandsons and a granddaughter.
“I did all those things because they were fun, not because I thought I’d be recognized 20 years down the road.”
McFate passed on her passion for bowling to most of her grandchildren, especially the 28-year-old granddaughter whose goal is to beat her grandmother, who will be 80 in November.
Patricia Clinkscales, president of the TNBA Church League at Holiday, finished with a 184 average for the 2008-09 season.
Clinkscales had eight 600s, ranging from a low of 601 to a high of 649, during the Friday league’s season, which recently finished on April 17.
Clinkscales was serving her first year as president and was re-elected for 2009-10.
