Garden club awards
CANTON — The Youngstown District was well represented at the annual Garden Club of Ohio Convention April 16 and 17 in Canton.
Members of district garden clubs receiving awards included Pearl Marlos, Dianna Mullins and Millie Campean, who placed in the design category, and Beverly Patrick, who won second place in the category. In the horticulture division Sheila Bowman won a first-place ribbon for her Crown of Thorns entry.
The East Liverpool-Calcutta Club took home eight awards including first place awards for civic beautification, flower show, yearbook and cookbook. Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society was recognized for its special educational exhibits on renewing dahlias.
Zumba for the cure
HUBBARD — The second annual Zumbathon will be from 10 a.m. to noon May 23 at Roosevelt Eleme ntary School, 110 Orchard Ave., sponsored by Hubbard Community Pool as a benefit for Relay for Life.
The registration fee is $40 per person. The fee for a team of six or more is $35 per person if received by May 13. The fee includes a T-shirt and access to various prizes. Admittance fee at the door is $60.
