The colleges of Fine and Performing Arts and Health and Human Services have new leaders.
YOUNGS- TOWN — The Youngstown State University Board of Trustees has cleared the way for two new deans to begin their duties July 1.
The board voted to give both tenure and professorial rank to Dean Bryan DePoy of the College of Fine and Performing Arts and Dean Joseph Mosca of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services.
Both men were recently named to their posts by YSU Provost Ikram Khawaja after national searches. There was a very strong pool of candidates for both positions, he said.
The action by the trustees was necessary to finalize the arrangement.
Mosca is the current associate dean of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services and has been on the faculty at YSU since 1989.
He will succeed John Yemma, who retired last summer.
That college is YSU’s largest with an enrollment of 3,500 students. It includes the departments of criminal justice, health professions, human ecology, human performance and exercise science, military science, nursing, physical therapy and social work.
Mosca retains his tenure and rank of professor in the Department of Social Work.
He has a doctorate in social work from the University of Pittsburgh and both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in social work from the University of Illinois.
DePoy will be a newcomer to YSU.
He is currently interim dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana.
DePoy will succeed Dean Joe Edwards when he retires July 1.
The college of Fine and Performing Arts has an enrollment of nearly 1,000 students. It includes the Dana School of Music and the departments of art, theater, dance and communication.
DePoy was granted tenure and the rank of professor in the Dana School of Music.
He has a doctorate of music from Florida State University, a master of music degree from the University of New Mexico and a bachelor of music degree from Indiana University (Bloomington) School of Music.
