YOUNGSTOWN — The Children’s Center for Science & Technology, 139 E. Boardman St., previously The Children’s Museum of the Valley, is announcing that it will be closed to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4-8, 11-14 and 19-20 to accommodate the STEM Program.

The science, technology, engineering and mathematics program is funded by the Ohio Board of Regents and is designed to offer 500 fourth-grade students from Youngstown City School District hands-on experience in science so students develop skills that empower them to participate in an increasingly scientific and technological world.

The STEM Program is a joint initiative between Youngstown City Schools, the Children’s Center, Youngstown State University’s Center for Urban & Regional Studies, College of STEM, and departments of geological and environmental sciences and civil engineering, WFMJ TV, Youngstown Business Incubator, Turning Technologies, Perkins Communications, Ronald Cornell Faniro Architects, Paul Ricciuti, and the Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Center Director Suzanne Barbati said, “All of the partners involved in the STEM Program are excited to be able to offer additional hands-on resources to local teachers and their students.

New exhibits established at the center as a result of these resources will be available to the public in June.”
