Man gets 15 days on amended charge
STAFF REPORT
WARREN — A 26-year-old Homewood Avenue Southeast man will spend 15 days in Trumbull County Jail for attempting to steal money from the cash register of Convenient Mart on Youngstown Road earlier this month.
Elias Thomas III pleaded no contest Monday to an amended charge of aggravated trespassing, a misdemeanor, in Warren Municipal Court.
Judge Terry Ivanchak ordered Thomas to spend 180 days in jail but suspended 150 of them and gave him 15 days’ credit for the time he has spent already in the lockup.
A condition of his probation will be that he stay on his medication and continue his counseling, court officials said.
Thomas originally was charged with a felony for demanding money from a clerk at the store, jumping over the counter and trying to get into the register himself March 15. He fled from the store after the clerk fought him off, police said.
Officers, including one off-duty detective working security at another business, arrested Thomas a short distance away from the store.
Thomas’ charge was reduced after the store manager asked that charges be dropped, court officials said.
