Ankle bracelet problem lands teacher in jail

WARREN — A Warren City Schools physical education teacher charged with menacing last week after he was accused of following an ex-girlfriend and her friends is back in Trumbull County Jail after a run-in with the house-arrest company that was monitoring him.

Dominic R. Leone, 39, of Meadowbrook Avenue Southeast, was taken into custody Monday morning after Ultimate Protection Inc. notified Warren Municipal Court that it was having trouble monitoring Leone’s ankle bracelet.

A court probation officer said the company reported that it lost contact with Leone at some point since it was placed on him Friday. The company contacted Leone about it, and Leone said the bracelet had either malfunctioned or he had not been told correctly how to recharge it, the officer said.

Judge Terry Ivanchak revoked Leone’s bond until Leone’s attorney, Mark Hanni, can talk to the judge about the issue.

Robbery victim suffers serious head injury

BOARDMAN — A man was taken to the hospital and treated for head trauma after a robbery.

He told police he was with a friend at a Willow Drive apartment about 2 p.m. Sunday. The next thing he remembers is waking up in a car on his way to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.

He told police a man he knows on a first-name basis asked him several times for money while visiting the apartment. He said he remembered walking out to the parking lot then waking up in the back of a friend’s car and going to TMH.

The victim told police that he was missing $300 from his pants pocket.

He had a large lump and open wound on his head behind his right ear. Hospital staff told police tests showed he had some bleeding on his brain, and he was admitted to the intensive-care unit.

Deck Creations charged by attorney general

COLUMBUS — A Mineral Ridge home-improvement company failed to deliver promised services and did shoddy work, according to Attorney General Richard Cordray. A lawsuit, filed in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas, charges Deck Creations with violating Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act.

“This company collected thousands of dollars from consumers but failed to complete the work it was paid to do,” Cordray said.

Deck Creations, Ohltown-McDonald Road, offered outdoor home improvement services such as deck and gazebo construction to consumers in Ohio and other states. Since 2007, four consumers have filed complaints against Deck Creations with the attorney general’s office. Consumers said they paid $766 to $17,000 for the company’s services but that it failed to deliver.

According to the lawsuit, Deck Creations performed services in a shoddy, substandard and unprofessional manner.
