Weekend fire at YSU’s Moser Hall causes $5,000 damage

YOUNGSTOWN — A fire in a Youngstown State University laboratory caused an estimated $5,000 damage over the weekend, city fire officials said.

Firefighters responded to a call at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday to Moser Hall, which houses the university’s engineering and geology programs. The cause of the fire is being investigated, but YSU spokesman Ron Cole said it is believed to have been started by a heater left on in the room.

The fire was contained to the room, and the extent of the damage was to the heater as well as some smoke damage, Cole said.

Classes were today as scheduled.
