Stars at birthday party for blogger Perez Hilton
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — For someone who mocks celebrities on his popular blog, Perez Hilton sure has a lot of famous friends.
Christina Aguilera, the Jonas Brothers, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian were among some 200 well-wishers who attended the gossip king’s 31st birthday party Saturday night at the Viper Room.
Hilton (real name is Mario Lavandeira) bragged that the first gift he received was from “High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron: “He sent me a bottle of champagne to my hotel room, which made me squeal like a little school girl.”
The Jonas Brothers, who dashed from the Kids’ Choice Awards to sing “Happy Birthday” to Hilton, gave him an autographed guitar, and Aguilera belted her version of Marilyn Monroe’s birthday serenade to President John F. Kennedy.
“Happy birthday, Mr. Per-ez-ident,” she cooed.
Pa. man enters world of facial hair contests
MANHEIM, Pa. — First he founded the Lancaster County Bart Und Schnauzer Friendship Society, a loosely organized group for men with beards and mustaches. Then he singed his own beard in an unfortunate burn barrel incident. Next he shaved his chin.
This unfolding chain of events all led to a rather surreal moment in the local Weis Markets store: “Were you on Regis...” a stranger asked Steven Lutz of Manheim.
Yes, the 34-year-old did appear on “Live! with Regis and Kelly” on March 16 after winning the sideburns category the week before in the New York City Beard and Mustache Championships, a precursor to the World Beard and Mustache Championships, a sort of Beard Olympics to be held in Alaska in May.
Lutz has had a beard as long as he could grow one, possibly inspired by his dad, the late Robert Lutz, a Grace Brethren minister and grower of “burly beards.” About a year ago, he invented the facial hair “friendship society” as a lark, creating a MySpace page for it. He now has 467 friends on his page (motto: “Beard grow. Razor rust.”), many from around the world.
