Pa. labor chief back after rehab, incident at bar

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A top appointee of Gov. Ed Rendell is back on the job a little over two weeks after getting a citation for public drunkenness and a stint in rehab.

Rendell said Monday that acting Secretary of Labor and Industry Sandi Vito’s personal difficulties are no reflection on her work performance.

He says she has his full faith and support, and calls her a leader in aligning Pennsylvanias work force development with the needs of business and industry.

The 43-year-old Vito has expressed remorse for the March 11 incident at the bar of a downtown Harrisburg hotel.

Vito has been the department’s acting secretary since February 2008. She is awaiting a Senate vote on her nomination by Rendell to serve in the position on a permanent basis.
