TIME BANKING

TIME BANKING

The concept, which began about 20 years ago, is based largely on a community of people supporting one another by performing services to earn time credit. For example, someone baby-sits a child, then can buy an hour of the parents’ time. It also:

Redefines work to value whatever will lead to raising healthy children and families, advancing social justice, revitalizing neighborhoods and making the planet more sustainable.

Encourages reciprocity by providing opportunities for participants to help one another.

Provides means to earn credits: minor home repairs, child and pet care, tutoring, garden and yard work, housekeeping and others.

Enhances respect, mainly by demanding accountability and allowing people to be heard as ways to promote social justice.
