COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana County Health Department is offering a pediatric orthopedic clinic April 15 at Salem Community Hospital for anyone up to the age of 21 who has a possible orthopedic problem. Children may be referred to the clinic by a doctor, nurse, teacher, parent or grandparent. To make an appointment, call the county health department at (330) 424-0272.

Immunization event

GIRARD — A well-child immunization clinic is at 11 a.m. April 8 at the Girard Health Department, 100 W. Main St.

The cost is $5 per child. Parents are reminded to take a copy of their child’s immunization record, and a parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 18. Parents must preregister their child. Call (330) 545-6048.

Lifeguard training set

BOARDMAN — The American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter is offering lifeguard training.

To qualify for the training, people must be 15 by the end of the training session and must pass a pretraining swimming test. The locations and times for the training are:

Hubbard Community Pool, 250 Hall Ave.: April 21-May 9, 4 to 9:30 p.m.; and May 9-May 16, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $165. To register, call (330) 534-1992, ext. 1301.

Energy therapy class

POLAND — A two-day Healing Touch Level 1 class is offered April 17-18 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley, 401 W. Western Reserve Road.

Healing Touch is an energy therapy that focuses on helping to restore the natural flow and balance of the body’s energy system. The Healing Touch Certification Program is oriented toward nurses and other health-care professionals but is open to all. Benefit for Hospice

LOWELLVILLE — The 2009 Rocket Run, a 5-K run/2-K walk, organized by Lowellville High School 10th-graders in Lisa Iberis’ American Literature class, is May 2 to benefit the Mahoning Valley Chapter of Hospice of the Valley. Race day registration is from 8 to 8:45 a.m., with the race beginning at 9 a.m., all at the high school. Registration can also be completed online at www.rocketrun.synthasite.com.

Blessing, open house mark WIC anniversary

WARREN – A blessing and open house for the new offices of Humility of Mary Health Partners’ WIC (Women, Infants and Children) and Resource Mothers programs is from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Monday. The offices are located at 258 East Market St., inside the Gibson Building.

The event will also serve as a celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Ohio WIC program. Humility of Mary Health Partners administers the Trumbull County WIC program, the federally funded program providing education and nutritious food for pregnant women, new breast-feeding moms and infants and children up to age 5. Participants must live in Trumbull County and meet program guidelines.

WIC dietitians help moms make smart nutrition choices, and the food vouchers help stretch the family food budget, and WIC ensures needs are met through referral to other resources in the community, said Kim Beckley, WIC program manager.
