Actress to dramatize life of Doris Day

WARREN —Damaris Peters Pike, an actress and impersonator noted for her Women of Note performances, will speak at 10:30 a.m. April 15 at Packard Music Hall as the final lecturer in the Trumbull Town Hall series.

Pike launched Women of Note in 1988, using her knowledge of music history to dramatize the life of women in the music field. She founded the Opera Workshop at Hiram College, where she teaches and directs the women’s chorus. For her Packard appearance, she will perform “Que Sera, Sera — Remembering Doris Day.”

The hall will open at 9 a.m. for refreshments in the lobby.

Tickets are $25 and group and student rates are available. They can be purchased at the box office. A luncheon at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland will follow the lecture. The cost is $15. Call (330) 373-1900 for reservations.

YSU student art at the McDonough

YOUNGSTOWN — The 73rd annual Youngstown State University Student Art Exhibition opens Wednesday and runs through April 17th at the McDonough Museum of Art on Wick Avenue. An awards ceremony and reception will be at 7 p.m. Friday, featuring the musical act Braille. The event is free to the public.

Anderson Turner, director of galleries at Kent State University School of Art, is this year’s juror.

The closing reception at 6 p.m. April 17 will serve as a release party for Perspective: The Emerging Artists of Youngstown, a magazine designed and published by the Student Art Association. The magazine will feature many of the works that were chosen exhibition, as well as other student work.

Talent-show finalists

WARREN — The finalists have been selected for “Trumbull County’s Got Talent.”

The talent show for teens will begin at 6 p.m. April 9 at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave., and will feature guest star Judson Laipply, a comedian whose video “The Evolution of Dance” was a popular item on YouTube.com.

“Trumbull’s Got Talent” is sponsored by the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention and the Warren YMCA. Selected after auditioning for a panel of judges were Alana Carkido, Dominic DiTommaso, Jason Ensor, Hilary Hapgood, Kevin Kirksey, Corrin Lawrence, Taylor Lott, Aaron Macklin, Darren McArthur, Lizzy McFall, Davius Owens, Mystina Shields, Jenna Smith and Casey Standohar.

The audience will select the winners.

Trumbull art show

NILES — Trumbull County Educational Service Center’s annual student art show at Art Outreach Gallery includes more than 120 works of art by roughly 100 students in grades 9-12.

Students will perform at the awards ceremony at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the gallery, which is in Eastwood Mall.

Doo Wop concert

KENT — Western Reserve PBS (formerly PBS 45/49) will host Doo Wop Celebration III on May 30 at Kent Stage.

Tickets are $35 and there will be two performances: 4 and 7:30 p.m.

Featured acts include Gene Chandler, Charlie Thomas’ The Drifters, and the Tokens featuring Jay Siegel.

A limited number of Gold Circle tickets are available at $65, which includes the best seats, plus a private dinner reception and meet-and-greet session with the groups.
