Submit information for Holy Week, Easter

The Vindicator’s Religion page will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, April 5; Holy Thursday, April 9; Good Friday, April 10; Holy Saturday, April 11; and Easter, April 12. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Publication will be April 4.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification.

Spring revival

YOUNGSTOWN — A spring revival is planned Wednesday through Friday at Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., where Michael H. Harrison Sr. is pastor. Sessions will begin at 7 p.m., and the theme is “Coming Alive in 2009” from Ephesians 2:1-10.

Guest pastors are Dr. Frank Hearns of the Second Baptist Church and Pastor Avan Odom of New Fellowship Baptist Church, both of Warren, and Pastor Judah Early of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church of Cleveland.

Spiritual fitness

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will present “Deepening Your Spiritual Fitness” with Dr. Nancy Mramor from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 18 at Villa Maria Community Center.

Dr. Mramor is a licensed clinical, health and educational psychologist, specializing in education and health issues. She is an award-winning author of “Spiritual Fitness,” a guidebook for anyone who is willing to incorporate spirituality into their health practice. It is a workbook of exercises to create the highest levels of mind, body and spirit health.

Retrouvaille weekend

HOWLAND — A Retrouvaille weekend seminar is scheduled April 24-26 at the Avalon Inn. The weekend begins a new communication training for hurting married couples in various stages of disillusionment or misery in their relationship. Retrouvaille, which means “rediscovery” in French, is a peer group that allows couples to get at the root of their problem. Although the program is Catholic in scope, people of all faiths are welcome to help improve or save their marriage.

Movie planned

MINERAL RIDGE — Mineral Ridge Church of Christ, 3911 Main St., will present the movie “Fireproof” at 7 p.m. today at the church. The movie is based on saving a marriage but could relate to everyday lives of people in general. The showing is free and open to the public.

Pre-Easter concert

YOUNGSTOWN — Ambassadors for Christ, a group of six churches on the east side of Youngstown, will have a pre-Easter concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Church of God in Christ, 75 S. Prospect Ave., where the Rev. George Moore is pastor. Music selections will be presented by Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Mount Zion Baptist Church, St. James Church of God in Christ, St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, St. Stephen of Hungary Catholic Church and We Walk by Faith Bible Church with minister Aaron Griffin as the master of ceremonies.

Rosary cenacle

YOUNGSTOWN — The Shrine of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will have a rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the shrine. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.

Passion play

AUSTINTOWN — Highway Tabernacle Church, 3000 S. Raccoon Road, will present “Passion Play 2009” at 7 p.m. April 5, at 3 and 7 p.m. April 10, and at 7 p.m. April 11 and 12.

Broadcast at church

CORTLAND — Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, 2576 McCleary Jacoby Road, will host a live satellite broadcast, “PowerSurge: A Man and His Priorities,” from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. April 4. The free seminar addresses the challenges facing men, including maintaining a healthy balance as a father and husband and provider and managing stress and anxiety in difficult times. A freewill offering will be taken.

For spiritual directors

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Spiritual Director’s Professional Day is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 24 by Villa Maria Spirituality and Education Center at the community center.

Program leader will be Dr. Mary Lou Mlecko, who has a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s in theology from Duquesne University. She also has a certificate in spiritual direction from Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation.

Seven Steps

YOUNGSTOWN — The gospel choir of Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Funston St., will present its annual “Seven Steps to the Cross” service at 4 p.m. April 5. Seven speakers from area churches will discuss the steps Christ took to Calvary.

Speaker and concert

CANFIELD — An Evening of Rejoicing is planned April 20 at Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Road, by the Bible Study Women and Women’s Ministries Team at the church.
