Keith R. Suchora of Struthers was released on $1,000 cash bond.

STRUTHERS — A 22-year-old Struthers man pleaded innocent to a charge of felonious assault in the beating of Gerald Colanieri on Feb. 14 outside Donavito’s Italian Grille on Bridge Street.

Keith R. Suchora, of Spring Street, was arraigned in municipal court Friday in connection with the fight, and was released on $1,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. May 29, court officials said.

Struthers police Chief Robert Norris said Suchora turned himself in to police at 12:30 p.m. and was accompanied by an attorney.

Colanieri, 53, confirmed he lost sight in his right eye as a result of the fight but refused to comment further.

According to a Struthers police report, filed Feb. 14 by Jacque L. Schrader of Wood Street, Lowellville, who was involved in the incident, the altercation occurred about 1:30 a.m. that day.

Schrader said she and a friend, Tristan Suchora, and another man came to Donavito’s for Keith Suchora’s birthday party. When they arrived at the restaurant, she said she saw Colanieri and Renette Pallozzi sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot on the south side of the restaurant.

In her report, Schrader said she knew Colanieri and Pallozzi as friends of her family. But, when she greeted them, Schrader said Pallozzi accused her of being intoxicated and tried to get her into their car to take her home. She refused, and Pallozzi reached out and grabbed her wrist.

At that point, Schrader said Tristan Suchora approached the driver’s side of Colanieri’s vehicle and confronted him. She said the two argued and Colanieri tried to punch Tristan. In the meantime, Keith Suchora had left the bar and walked over to the commotion.

She said Colanieri “sucker punched” Keith from inside his vehicle, and then Keith reached inside the car and punched Colanieri several times.
