Students to receive computers from AT&T

STAFF REPORT

SALEM — AT&T today will give 12 new computers to Columbiana County students in conjunction with Connect Ohio, which is promoting broadband service in rural areas, the Ohio Telecom Association and the No Child Left Offline program.

The students are winners of an essay contest conducted at three county schools. Contestants were required to write a 200-word to 500-word essay answering one of three questions: How technology will improve your life in the next five years, describe your concept of the perfect cell phone, and how technology can be used to improve today’s economy.

Five computers will be given to ninth-grade winners at Salem High School. Two computers will be given to sixth-grade winners at St. Paul School in Salem, and five computers will go to ninth-grade winners at East Liverpool High School. The computers will become the property of the winner.

State Sen. Jason Wilson of Columbiana, D-30th, state Rep. Linda Bolon of East Palestine, D-1st, and Stephen Kristan, AT&T’s director of external affairs, will be present to award the computers.
