Lutheran E. loses, 57-46, in Div. IV state semifinal

COLUMBUS — Make that 785 wins for Dick Kortokrax.

Kalida’s coach is the winningest ever in Ohio and he added to his total with a 57-46 victory over Cleveland Heights Lutheran East on Thursday in the Division IV state semifinals.

Scott Schnipke had a dream game to power the Wildcats.

Coming in with a 13.2 points-per-game average, he scored 19 in the first half to lead the unranked Wildcats (23-4) to a lead that they never relinquished. He finished with 24.

Justin Kahle handled the ball and most of the pressure for the Wildcats, scoring 10 points with three assists.

First-team All-Ohioan William Felder was surrounded by defenders and had just 10 points for the third-ranked Falcons (23-3). Special mention all-stater Ladell Trotty led the way with 18 points.

Oak Hill 55, Ada 46

Kyle Ondera had a brilliant all-around game, scoring 20 points and directing traffic to lead Oak Hill (24-2) over Ada.

Cody Cannon chipped in with 11 points.

Ada (22-4) was making its first trip to the state finals since the inaugural tournament in 1923. Aaron Cross scored 19 points for the Bulldogs.

Ahead 14-13 early in the second quarter, the Oaks scored the next 13 points to pull away.

Cle. Cent. Cath. 76, Piketon 52

COLUMBUS — Third-team All-Ohioan Anton Grady came up as big as his 6-foot-8 frame, and Cleveland Central Catholic relied on its depth and speed to beat Piketon in a Div. III state semifinal.

Grady, a sophomore, notched 19 points and was a force inside for the Ironmen (23-3), who were ranked ninth in the final regular-season Associated Press poll. He also had eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Central Catholic forced 23 turnovers that resulted in 18 points.

Chall Montgomery added 12 points for the Ironmen. Thirteen players got in and 11 scored.

Cody Smith, a second-team all-stater, had 17 points and Jordan Brabson added 15.

Defiance Tinora 43, Dayton Christian 38

Reserve Treg Lymanstall hit the go-ahead bucket with 1:30 left and later added four clinching free throws for Defiance Tinora (23-3).

Lymanstall, who finished with 13 points, hit a shot from the left corner off an assist from J.R. Wuo with 90 seconds left to put the Rams ahead 37-36.

After Dayton Christian (22-5) missed a 3-pointer, Taylor Wiemken hit two foul shots. After another Warriors miss, Lymanstall was violently thrown to the court by an opposing player for an intentional foul. Lymanstall hit both shots and then was fouled on the ensuing possession and hit two more.

Aaron Deister came off the bench for 15 points for the Warriors.
