Wrestling shows featured at the Wedge

AUSTINTOWN — Nick Volinchak and Kyle Terreri have always had a passion for professional wrestling.

From growing up watching the likes of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, to grappling with friends in their backyards, the two have always loved the business. Now, the Youngstown State University students have gone one step further and actually created a business.

Championship Wrestling Experience has been in existence for about two years and features wrestling events each month. The events are held at the Wedge Nightclub, 1743 S. Raccoon Road, and feature more than a dozen local wrestlers. The league has also employed wrestlers from across the country, bringing in the likes of Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Jerry Lynn and Chris Sabin of WWE and TNA fame.

The league will host an event Friday, as CWE presents “March Madness” for fans of all ages. The event will feature six matches, including two title bouts. Undisputed Champion Shiima Xion will take on rival Patrick Hayes, and the Tag Team Championship will be decided when the Straight Jacket Mafia put their belts on the line against the L.A. Gunz. The event will also feature the debut of a new tag team, Irish Airborne. Backlash from February’s event, “Battle Lines” will be in the air. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Havana House in Niles, 5801 Youngstown Warren Road, or at the Wedge box office for $10 before the show. Tickets will be $12 at the gate. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the first match to take place at 7:30.
