Shamrock appointed interim director of JFS

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — Diane Shamrock, administrator of the Trumbull County Child Support Enforcement Agency since December 2005, has been appointed interim director of the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services.

JFS, which receives most of its funding from federal and state sources, is what was formerly known as the welfare department.

County commissioners approved Shamrock’s appointment Wednesday at their regular meeting.

JFS and CSEA merged into one in December 2005, at which point Shamrock was named administrator of CSEA. The position was vacant because of the retirement of Christina Campbell.

With the 2005 merger, Tom Mahoney became the supervisor over CSEA, and Shamrock reported to Mahoney, who was JFS director.

Commissioners fired Mahoney on Monday afternoon after an investigation conducted by detectives with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation is ongoing.

Mahoney was notified of his firing Monday by deputy sheriffs, who helped him remove personal effects and escorted him from the JFS building, 280 N. Park Ave.

Commissioners, investigators and county Prosecutor Dennis Watkins will not say why Mahoney was fired.
