New police chief

Capt. Jeff Palmer will become the new chief of police at a swearing-in ceremony at 2 p.m. today in Girard Municipal Court. Here are some of his credentials:

Twenty-year veteran of the Girard Police department.

Nine years as captain in the department.

Girard High School graduate class of 1984.

Attended Youngstown State University for 3 1‚Ñ2 years.

Graduate of Hiram College Police Academy in 1989.

FBI Law Enforcement Executive Training in 2007.

Training with drug task force.

Ethics and supervisory training.
