McDonald officials mull rate adjustment

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR

MCDONALD — Village officials recently gave a first reading to an ordinance to implement a water and sewer rate adjustment designed to offset rate increases imposed on the village.

The increases come from the Mahoning County Sanitary District and the Niles Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The new rates for residents would be $3.15 per 1,000 gallons of water and $4.30 per 1,000 gallons of sewage, up from $2.25 and $2.70, respectively, noted Thomas Domitrovich, village administrator.

If the measure passes, the increases could be reflected on customers’ bills by July, Domitrovich said.

McDonald has a waste pumping station to collect water; the Niles facility charges the village to treat the material, he continued, adding that the higher rates are necessary to keep the water and wastewater facilities operating in the black.
