Hubbard man lodged in jail on drug charge
YOUNGSTOWN — Police said a Hubbard man who led them on a high-speed chase on the city’s West Side wound up in jail on a marijuana possession charge.
An officer on patrol said he spotted Brian Burton, 23, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, nearly strike a utility pole as he turned from North Dunlap Avenue onto Mahoning Avenue while speeding shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The officer said he saw Burton run two stops signs and a red light and go the wrong way on a one-way street as he pursued him for several blocks.
Police said Burton finally stopped on Hartford Avenue when a second police car blocked his path.
Officers said they found a plastic bag of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket.
He was charged with possession, fleeing and eluding and reckless operation and lodged in the Mahoning County Jail to await arraignment.
