Shutdown week changed
LORDSTOWN — General Motors Corp. will close the Lordstown complex the week of June 22 instead of the week of April 20 as previously announced. Chris Lee, a company spokesman, said the change was made in an effort to balance production with expected sales. Because of slow sales, the assembly plant already has laid off its midnight shift and is laying off the afternoon shift next week.
Avalon posts small gain
HOWLAND — Avalon Holdings Corp. earned $62,000, or 2 cents a share, in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared with $196,000, or 5 cents a share, in the same quarter of 2007. Net operating revenues were $12.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared with $10.4 million in the fourth quarter of the prior year. Avalon Holdings provides waste management services to industrial, commercial, municipal and governmental customers. It also owns the Avalon Golf and Country Club, which operates golf courses in the region.
Insurance for seniors
GIRARD – The Ohio Department of Insurance will have an informational meeting about how it can help retirees who have recently lost their health care coverage. The session will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave.
