Councilman has no problem with veto

STAFF REPORT

SALEM — Councilman Clyde Brown said Monday he’s fine with a mayoral veto of two ordinances council approved last week.

Brown, D-at large, said he would redo the ordinances and submit them again.

Mayor Jerry Wolford announced his decision after talking with Brown.

One ordinance granted the parks department authority over the city’s recreation area at the city reservoir. Wolford said the heads of the separate parks and utilities departments agreed the land belongs to the utilities department.

Wolford said the parks department and the city’s utilities department have cooperated for the recreation area on a “handshake” agreement.

The second ordinance also gave the parks department power over the parks area at the reservoir. Wolford said he vetoed the second ordinance because of misspellings of park names and other errors.
