Burton library announces chess tournament results


BURTON — Thirty participants from Northeast Ohio completed Division IV of the annual Friends of the Burton Public Library Chess Tournament on Feb. 28. Two players achieved scores of 4 in the four-game tournament: Ken Fiore of Sheffield Lake, and Bob Kelo of Fairport Harbor. A tie-breaker determined Fiore to be the first-place winner.

Seven players scored three points in the division: Pete Barnovsky of Cortland, Gary Gifford of Mentor, Jerimiah Greene of Kirtland James Hightower of Garrettsville, Martin Hillyer of Painesville, Rick Melnick of Painesville and Asher Wilthew of Garrettsville. Hillyer and Gifford shared third place.
