TV favorites

“The Simpsons” (8 p.m., Fox): On “The Simpsons,” our favorite yellow clan travels to Ireland so that Grandpa can have one last beer at a beloved pub. But much to his chagrin, the formerly quaint hangout is now overrun with yuppies.

“Big Love” (9 p.m., HBO): Is it over already? The third season of this bizarre, controversial, funny and touching series comes to a close with Bill still trying his best to bring down his arch rivals, Roman and the Greenes. Edgy, yet in many ways very old-fashioned, “Big Love” continues to suck us in with its examination of a problem-wracked polygamous family. As usual, its cast of women sparkled, with Chloe Sevigny as the scheming Nicki earning special praise. Just one of many reasons why we love “Big Love.”

“The Celebrity Apprentice” (9 p.m., NBC): “The Celebrity Apprentice” is the train wreck we expected. Tonight brings a heated exchange between contestants that almost comes to blows and ends with one celeb storming off. Sadly, this show is funnier than most sitcoms.
