Man charged in murder, assault cases

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a 20-year-old South Bruce Street man on charges of murder, attempted murder and felonious assault with firearm specifications and illegal gun possession.

Indicted Thursday was Daniel Ortello, who is charged with the March 8 murder of Seetreon A. Dothard, 29, of West Judson Avenue, and with committing attempted murder and felonious assault against K’Shawn Weaver on the same day.

Ortello was arrested March 13 in the psychiatric unit at Forum Health Northside Medical Center and placed in the county jail.

Police found Dothard lying face down on the street in the 200 block of Lansdowne Boulevard, dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head. A witness said he heard a gunshot about 5:30 a.m. but didn’t see anything.

Police said they found a loaded 9 mm pistol in Dothard’s waistband.

The illegal gun possession charge against Ortello stems from his May 21, 2008, drug possession conviction in Youngstown Municipal Court.
