YOUNGSTOWN — Tickets are still available for the third annual Make-A-Wish Foundation Casino Night presented by GM-UAW from 6:30 to 11 p.m. today at the Chevrolet Centre.

Proceeds from the evening will grant the wishes of local children battling life-threatening medical conditions served by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Northeast Ohio Region.

The Youngstown Satellite Offices grants about 35 wishes a year for local children. Currently, 20 children are waiting to have their special wishes granted.

Tonight’s event will feature hors d’ oeuvres, open bar, live music, gaming, a live auction and prizes. Professional gaming tables staffed by volunteer celebrity dealers such as Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini will enable guests to enjoy poker, blackjack, Texas hold-em and other casino games. There will be no cash payouts from gaming; this is a “for-fun” only event.

Tickets are $65 and include $10 in gaming chips.

Achieving financial peace

NEW WATERFORD — Financial Peace University, a 13-week program, will begin at 3 p.m. April 4 at Lake Mount Church of Christ, 6290 state Route 7. Topics include saving for emergencies, budgeting, relationship and money issues, getting out of debt, understanding investments and insurance and mortgages.

Orientation sessions will be at 3 p.m. March 28 and 12:15 p.m. March 29 at the church. The program fee is $100.

Job loss support group

CANFIELD — A Job Transition Support Group is forming for anyone in need of help with networking, access to resources and addressing the spiritual/emotional issues surrounding job loss.

Meetings are scheduled at 9:15 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month in fellowship hall of Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St.

The next session will be Tuesday.

The Rev. Larry Bowlad, pastor, leads the sessions.

Dating life of birds

CANFIELD — The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

The evening will begin with a half-hour of social time followed by a presentation called “Birds Gone Wild: The Dating Life of Birds” starting at 7 p.m., featuring various courtship displays of local birds.

Visiting Nurse grant

YOUNGSTOWN — The Visiting Nurse Association of the Greater Youngstown Area was recently awarded a $12,500 grant from The Youngstown Foundation to assist with the agency’s In-Home Assessment Program. The program provides in-home medical assessments and health education relative to patient safety in the home.

The Visiting Nurse Association of the Greater Youngstown Area, founded in 1904, provides skilled nursing, home health aides, physical, occupational and speech therapies, wound care and psychiatric nursing.
