Cleveland loses again, to Brewers, 7-5
PHOENIX (AP) — Manny Parra allowed three runs, five hits and two walks over four innings, but the Milwaukee Brewers rallied from an early three-run deficit to beat the Cleveland Indians 7-5 on Thursday.
David Dellucci homered for the Indians, winless in three games against Milwaukee this spring.
Aaron Laffey, one of a handful of candidates for the final spot in the Indians’ rotation, allowed three runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts in four innings. Laffey didn’t allow a hit and faced only one batter more than the minimum over the first three innings before tiring in the fourth and giving up three runs.
“He started to elevate the ball that last inning and was able to work through it,” Cleveland manager Eric Wedge said. “You’ve got to work that, work through the bumps you go through in spring training.”
Cleveland led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth but J.J. Hardy hit an RBI triple and Corey Hart added a three-run homer to give the Brewers a 7-4 lead.
After starting the spring with six scoreless innings over two appearances, Parra has yielded six runs and 12 hits with three walks in seven innings over his past two starts.
“I was off,” said Parra, who struck out three. “My arm wasn’t catching up with my body and I was getting out in front. I’ve got to figure out why it was a little off today. My arm felt lazy today and you can’t keep the ball down like that.”
“It’s good to have some bumps in spring training so you can learn from them,” Parra said. “It’s got to be better than that. It has to.”
