Actress died of brain hemorrhage

NEW YORK — The cause of actress Natasha Richardson’s death was an epidural hematoma caused by blunt-impact trauma to the head, the New York City medical examiner’s office said Thursday.

The medical examiner formally ruled the 45-year-old’s death an accident. “It’s a brain hemorrhage,” said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner.

Thursday night at 8 o’clock, Broadway theaters — where Richardson’s work drew critical acclaim and where she won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in “Cabaret” — dimmed their lights for one minute in tribute.
