Woman leads police on high-speed chase

STAFF REPORT

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A woman led police on a high-speed chase through New Castle and five townships Tuesday before giving up on state Route 18 in Mercer County, state police said.

State police in New Castle said Amy Jean Tillia, 27, of Grove City, was arraigned afterward by District Magistrate Scott McGrath and taken to the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing for Tillia is set for 9:30 a.m. March 25 at Lawrence County Central Court.

Police said Tillia was wanted on a probation violation. Bail agents saw her driving in New Castle and notified 911. City police officers tried to stop her but she fled, police said.

State police joined the pursuit on state Route 224 at state Route 60.

During the next 15 minutes, police pursued Tillia through Union, Pulaski, Mahoning and Wilmington townships.

Police said she almost collided head-on with New Wilmington Borough police officer Jeffrey Weisen.

She was charged with attempting to elude a police officer, reckless endangering and 26 summary traffic violations, police said.
