BEREA — Cleveland Browns receiver Donte Stallworth says he is “grief stricken” over his car accident that killed a pedestrian on a busy causeway linking Miami and Miami Beach.

Stallworth says in a statement released by the team Wednesday that his “thoughts and prayers are with” the family of Mario Reyes. Police say Stallworth was headed toward the beach when he hit the 59-year-old Reyes with his Bentley on Saturday morning. Reyes was near a crosswalk but it’s unclear if he was crossing legally.

Stallworth said he could not comment further because the accident is under investigation. He was cooperating with police and no charges have been filed.

Police are awaiting a routine toxicology report expected late this week before releasing more details.

Running back Noah Herron has signed with the Browns, who lost Jason Wright to free agency earlier this week.

The 26-year-old Herron was drafted by Pittsburgh in the seventh round in 2005. He has rushed for 273 yards, caught 29 passes for 211 yards and scored five touchdowns in 23 career games with Green Bay and Tampa Bay.

The 5-foot-11, 225-pounder could fill Wright’s role as a part-time back behind Jamal Lewis.

Wright signed a two-year contract with Arizona on Tuesday.

Coincidentally, Wright and Herron were teammates at Northwestern.

Herron played 16 games for the Packers in 2006. He spent all of 2007 on Green Bay’s injured reserve list with a knee injury and was inactive for all four games he was on Tampa Bay’s roster last year.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed cornerback Fernando Bryant to a one-year contract to retain some secondary depth after losing free agent cornerback Bryant McFadden to the Arizona Cardinals.

Bryant, formerly of the Jaguars and Lions, signed with Pittsburgh on Nov. 11 and made three tackles in two games. He was inactive on game days most of the remainder of the season.

Bryant, a 1999 first-round draft pick by Jacksonville who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Jaguars, has seven interceptions in 112 career games.
