2 local school board members are honored for commitment

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — Two area school board members were recognized this week for their commitment to training and leadership activities on their board of education as well as regional and statewide Ohio School Boards Association activities.

Joyce E. Brooks, a member of both the Mahoning County Educational Service Center and the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center school boards, and Diane Shiley, a member of the Newton Falls School Board, were presented with the OSBA’s Award of Achievement.

Brooks also has the distinction of being presented with the OSBA’s Master Board Member Award, a once-in-a-lifetime honor given to school board members who dedicate themselves to improving their boardmanship skills and knowledge.

Only those who have earned the Award of Achievement are even considered for the Master Board Member recognition.

A school board member must complete numerous professional development workshops and activities and serve their local boards in leadership capacities to be eligible.
