Police seek 2 suspects in robbery of woman

HUBBARD — City police are still looking for a man and woman believed to have robbed a Hubbard woman who once viewed them as friends.

According to police reports, a 30-year-old Wendemere Drive woman called the couple for a ride to the 717 Credit Union to cash a $1,600 check and then take her to a nearby convenience store Friday afternoon. After returning from the store, the man punched the woman in her face several times and took the purse containing the money, police said.

Police observed a swollen right eye and bruising on the Wendemere Drive woman.

The victim told police she at one time was the baby-sitter for the female, who is believed to be 17. The woman also told police that the man and woman live in Youngstown.

Closed for Good Friday

NEWTON FALLS — Newton Falls Municipal Court will be closed April 10 for Good Friday. People who use the court are advised not to schedule anything on this date, court officials said.

Police seeking teenager charged with assault

HERMITAGE, Pa. — A teenager has been charged with aggravated assault after a fight at the Little League Complex, city police said.

Police said a fight broke out among teenagers on the property Friday at 5525 Virginia Road.

Akeem Fields, 18, of Cedar Avenue in Sharon, is charged. Police said he punched two 17-year-old boys in the face. One of the boys was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken nose. The other boy suffered a broken eye socket, nose and jaw.

Police have a warrant for Fields’ arrest.

Liberty police seek man in theft of cigarettes

LIBERTY — Township police are still looking for a man who ran off with cigarettes from a local convenience store and led a store employee on a short car chase.

According to police reports, a man walked into Conroy’s Express on Belmont Avenue early Sunday and asked to purchase three cartons of cigarettes, then tried to snatch the cigarettes and run out of the store. The store clerk and the man got into a wrestling match over the items.

The man told the clerk, “You don’t want to get shot over this,” then ran out of the store with the stolen items. The store clerk locked the doors and drove off behind the thief long enough to get a description of the car he was driving and a license plate number.

Police checked a Girard address where the registered owner is believed to live, but no one was home.

Man sentenced to jail for sex with a minor

LISBON — Judge David Tobin of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court has sentenced Brian Styen, 24, of Columbiana, to 90 days in the county jail on a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

He will have to register with the sheriff’s office as a sex offender when he is released. The sentencing took place Friday.

The acts occurred in a house in East Palestine on Feb. 10, 2008. A co-defendant, Cody Harmon, 20, of East Palestine, is awaiting trial on the same charge.
