Live Grammy telecast to air a bit earlier in 2010
NEW YORK — The Grammys will be a bit earlier in 2010.
The 52nd annual awards will air live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Jan. 31.
Neil Portnow, president and CEO of The Recording Academy, says the academy is “delighted to host the world’s premiere music event in our hometown again.”
This year’s show aired Feb. 8. The unlikely pairing of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss that produced the hit album “Raising Sand” won five Grammys, including album of the year.
Baltimore Opera will be liquidated
BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Opera Company’s board of trustees has voted to seek Chapter 7 liquidation and sell off the 58-year-old company’s assets.
General Manager M. Kevin Wixted says the company didn’t have enough money to do more than struggle month to month. He said the company would never get ahead and could never raise enough money to have one season of opera.
The board took the vote Thursday. Now the company is going to sell its costumes, equipment, warehouse and scenery before using the proceeds to pay creditors.
Board Chairman Allan Jensen says the economy made it impossible to make significant progress in keeping the opera company operating.
Three months ago, the opera canceled its 2008-09 season and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
