SEPT. 11 FACTS

On Sept. 11, 2001, planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into both World Trade Center towers in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a field in Somerset, Pa.:

8:46 a.m.: Flight 11 crashes into World Trade Center’s North Tower.

From 8:46 to 10:29: At least 100 people trapped in the North Tower’s upper floors by fire and smoke jump to their deaths.

9:03 a.m.: Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower.

9:59 a.m.: South Tower collapses.

10:28 a.m.: North Tower collapses.

Each tower contained 110 floors

As of February 2005, 2,749 death certificates were filed related to the World Trade Center attacks; 1,588 were identified from the physical remains found.
