Milwaukee, Green Bay advance to Horizon women’s title game
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Traci Edwards and Ashley Imperiale each scored 24 points to help Wisconsin-Milwaukee defeat Cleveland State Friday, 63-57, in the Horizon League women’s tournament.
Lindsay Laur added 15 points for the seventh-seeded Panthers (15-17).
The other six players that Milwaukee used in the game were held scoreless.
Cleveland State (19-13) was paced by Shawnita Garland with 18 points. The Vikings opened the game on a 14-0 run.
“I’m really proud of our players’ perseverance and their ‘never-quit’ to get down 14-0 and to stay the course, stay poised and chip away at it,” UMW coach Sandy Botham said.
Edwards collected a double-double with 11 rebounds and became the state of Wisconsin’s all-time collegiate scorer in the process. She now has 2,329 career points.
The league championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
Green Bay 67, Wright State 36
Lavesa Glover scored 15 points and Rachel Porath added 11 for Green Bay, which limited Wright State to 33 percent shooting (14-of-43).
Green Bay went on a 14-0 run in the first half to take control, 23-5, and was never threatened the rest of the way.
Kati Hardy added 10 points for Green Bay and Kayla Tetschlag finished with 10 rebounds.
LaShawna Thomas had 12 points to lead Wright State.
