Kennedy Cath. in Western final
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Kennedy Catholic took an early lead and used the foul line to defeat Sewickley Academy 65-50 Friday in the PIAA Class A Western semifinal.
The Golden Eagles (25-2) took an 18-7 lead after eight minutes and increased their advantage to 30-15 at the break in the game played at Slippery Rock University.
Kennedy Catholic made 26 of 35 free throws to hold off Sewickley (23-5).
Kyle Randall scored 25 points and hit 17 of 25 foul shots to pace Kennedy. He scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, canning nine of 14 foul shots.
Randall had seven assists and four steals.
Phil Kaikis scored 14 points while Aundra Jones collected 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Tom Droney scored 29 points for Sewickley (23-5).
Tuesday, Kennedy Catholic will play Elk County Catholic for the Western championship.
