Cleveland State 80, UIC 60

CLEVELAND — Third-seeded Cleveland State made 11-of-15 from three-point in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Speedway Horizon League Championship. CSU, which improved to 19-12 overall, advances to the semifinals to face seventh-seeded Milwaukee, which upset second-seeded Butler. The semifinal round will be in Green Bay. UIC concludes its season at 14-16. “Our players came out really focused tonight and I could really see a difference in their eyes tonight,” head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. “We entered this game with a clear vision and did what we needed to do tonight.” Kailey Klein led the Vikings with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Jessica Roque added 18 points and four assists. “Overall, I was very pleased with the way we played. We hit big shots and competed at a high level which is what you need to do at this time of the year.” Dominique Butler added nine points and six boards, as CSU held a 42-31 advantage on the glass.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee 53, Butler 52

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s basketball team scored the final 11 points of regulation to overcome a 10-point deficit with 2:50 to advance. Sophomore Lindsay Laur had a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds and kick-started the final run with five-straight points. She was named the U.S. Army Horizon League Player of the Game. Senior Traci Edwards capped the run with 8.8 seconds remaining and finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Brittany Bowen was Butler’s lone double-digit scorer with 19 points. Susan Lester had nine points and eight boards.

Wright State 64, Valparaiso 59

VALPARAISO, Ind. — Wright State next will play Wisconsin-Green Bay, which defeated Detroit, 60-46.
