POLAND — Despite many describing themselves as being old, you’d hardly believe their own words from the bustle among the nine women in the room.

Hair clips and scotch tape, pieces of wardrobe and accessories, all exchanged hands with a hurried excitement as the women helped one another into their outfits.

“Where’s my hat?” asked Geri Bouslough, with the intensity of a runway model preparing for a big show. Madeline Shanks, the performances coordinator at Shepherd of the Valley on Western Reserve Road, rustled through an old suitcase and dug out a neatly folded piece of newspaper handing it to Bouslough.

The hat was not folded within the newspaper, however, rather it was the newspaper, and the women were not preparing for some fashion show in a big city but rather the second performance of a fashion/variety show at the independent and assisted living community.

Each model’s appearance drew a hearty laugh from the audience as the women paraded out among the audience members dressed in various household items. “You know we enjoyed it because of the smiles on their faces,” said resident Ray Braidich.
