New Middletown hires part-time patrolman

NEW MIDDLETOWN – Village council hired a new part-time patrolman when it met recently.
Robert Martin will be paid $10:38 hourly with no benefits and will be on probation for one year. In other police department action, Police Chief Vince D’Egidio was named permanently to his position as he has completed his probationary period.
Also, council voted to buy a 2005 Crown Victoria police cruiser for $2,000 from Goshen Township. The vehicle needs $2,000 worth of work before it can be put on the road.
Council also opened bids for a sidewalk construction and street lighting program near the new library on state Route 170. Bidders were: Joe Lofarno Concrete, Girard, $99,831; Parella Pannunzio Inc., Youngstown, $108,339; Foust Construction, Girard, $84,874; and Daniel Terreri and Sons, North Jackson, $116,089. The bids were held for study by the township engineer.
Council agreed to join the Columbiana/Mahoning/Trumbull Better Business Bureau for $320.
