Jurors in murder trial visit McKelvey Lake

YOUNGSTOWN — Jurors in the capital murder trial of Antonio Jackson visited the McKelvey Lake crime scene this morning before hearing opening statements from prosecuting and defense lawyers.

Jackson, 28, of Summer Street, is charged with the Aug. 6, 2005, aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and rape of Sierra Y. Slaton, 19, of Vestal Road, whose body was found floating in the lake the day after she died.

Presiding over the trial is Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

The county coroner’s office ruled Slaton’s death a homicide and said she died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
