HUBBARD — The Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will meet March 18 at St. Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St. The Rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. and the Mass at 10. Participants are asked to wear green.

Festival of hymns

BOARDMAN — Seraphim Chorus, directed by Kris Harper, will present “When In Our Music God is Glorified,” at 7 p.m. Friday at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 124 Beaver St., New Castle, Pa., and at 3 p.m, March 15 at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave. The festival of hymns will feature organ, brass quartet and tympani. The traditional Quaker hymn, “How Can I Keep from Singing?” will be presented along with other favorites such as “How Great Thou Art.”

Day of spirituality

HOWLAND — The Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Church at Queen of Heaven Monastery, 8640 Squires Lane, N.E., will offer a day of spirituality from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 21. The presenter will be the Rev. James Hess, administrator of St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church in North Huntingdon, Pa., and St. Mary’s Church in Herminie, Pa. His topic will be “To Live Is Christ,” based on the writings of St. Paul.

Prayer breakfast

YOUNGSTOWN — Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln St., will have a Women of Purpose prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. March 21 at the Holiday Inn Boardman, 7410 South Ave. The theme is “Coming Alive in 2009” with Pastor June Jeffries of First Baptist Church in Vandergrift, Pa. Seminar scheduled

YOUNGSTOWN — Marketplace Solutions will facilitate an “Economic Up Turn Opportunity” seminar March 21 at Youngstown Christian School, 4401 Southern Blvd. Business leaders will talk about marketplace transformation and transitioning from job loss to career vision at the free event, which will integrate a Biblical perspective. Lenten services

STRUTHERS — Ecumenical Lenten services are planned at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at area churches. The first took place this week at Struthers Presbyterian Church, 110 Poland Ave., with the Rev. Kevin Peters from St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St. Offerings from the services will be divided between Protestant Family Services and Catholic Charities.

Other services follow: next week, simple soup supper at 6 p.m. at St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave., Boardman, with the Rev. Steven K. Breazier and the Rev. Robert Johnson; March 18 at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 1951 Mathews Road, Boardman, with Pastor Bruce Irwin speaker; March 25 at Struthers United Methodist Church, 33 Sexton St., Struthers, with Pastor Bob Offerdahl as speaker; and St. Nicholas Church with Carolyn Griffeth as speaker.

30-hour famine event

BOARDMAN — Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is sponsoring area youth groups for the 30-hour famine March 20 and 21 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestwood Drive, and Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive. Youth groups are combining to “Go Hungry” to raise funds for world hunger programs.

New ministry

FARRELL, Pa. — New and Living way Apostolic Church, 927 Lee Ave., will celebrate a ministry send-off for elders Sonja and Jason Theodore at 5 p.m. March 15 at the church. The outreach ministry is called “He Came To Set The Captive Free! in Durham, N.C.

A light meal will follow in the fellowship hall. The theme is “Embracing the Call” with speaker Pastor Tyrone Steals of Beacon Liberty Street Temple, Church of God In Christ, Meadville, Pa.

Youth gospel choir

YOUNGSTOWN — The newly formed youth gospel choir at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., will make its debut during a worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Shane Russo, youth outreach director, organized the group, which first attracted eight participants and now has 21. Rehearsals are at 5:30 p.m. Mondays.

Teen Straight Talk

BOARDMAN — Teen Straight Talk, an abstinence program, will have a pre-meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, for a representative and youth from each church who would like to participate. This session will be used to plan an event scheduled May 3 at Good Hope.

Healing drum circle

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will have a healing drum circle from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday Facilitator Jason Lynn has been drumming for more than 20 years. He studies and practices mystical, spiritual and therapeutic powers of rhythm. He teaches both conventional and metaphysical drumming.

Children’s fair

LIBERTY — Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, will have a children’s fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, March 14. The event will feature games such as fish pond, lollipop tree, animal toss, cake walk and sand art. Tickets are 25 cents.

At Gospel Temple church

CAMPBELL — A musical will be presented at 4 p.m. March 14 at Gospel Temple Baptist Church, 279 Whipple Ave. Various groups will perform.

The Rev. Jack Pettes of Mount Zion Baptist Church will speak at 4 p.m. March 15 to mark the fourth anniversary of the pastor, the Rev. Melvin D. Brown.

Special Mass planned

GIRARD — A Mass will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., for Daniel J. Marks for his 28th birthday. Marks, a son of Patricia Bernard Marks, went to Kauai, Hawaii, in November of 2005 to camp and hike for a week’s vacation. He did not return home and is considered a missing, endangered person. A Mass for missing and deceased children will be at noon March 29 at St. Rose.

Ministerial alliance

YOUNGSTOWN — The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Youngstown and Vicinity will meet at 11 a.m. Monday in the community meeting room of Newport Branch Library, 3730 Market St.

The IMA champions causes that promote racial reconciliation, good-quality public education, health and wellness and community empowerment. It is also a founding sponsor of the area’s faith-based credit union via its economic development projects.
