Two chances to win your own doll
THE CONTEST
The story of Kit Kittredge, one of the historical characters, depicts the life of a 9-year-old girl growing up during the Great Depression. She sees her dad lose his business overnight, which drastically changes life for Kit and her family.
Kit is an aspiring reporter, which plays a big part in her way of relating to the changes in the world around her.
The Vindicator is giving young girls in the area a chance to be a reporter and win their very own Kit.
Also included with the prize will be Kit’s typewriter, desk and chair. These items are on back order until May but can be viewed at Americangirl.com. Just do a search for “Kit’s desk and chair” and “Kit’s typewriter.”
Girls ages 8 to 12 are invited to participate in a “reporting” contest. In 100 words or less, submit an article you’ve written about a news event at your school.
Send your entry to:
The Vindicator
Attn. Barb Shaffer, Society Editor
P.O. Box 780
Youngstown, OH 44501
Or, e-mail it to:
society@vindy.com
The deadline is Friday, March 20. Entries must include the “reporter’s” name, age, telephone number, school and teacher’s name. The news event will be verified with the school.
The winner will be notified Monday, March 23, and the winning news story will be printed in The Vindicator and online at www.vindy.com on Sunday, March 29.
The other entries will also be posted online.
THE DRAWING
If you don’t qualify for the reporter’s contest, don’t despair. The Vindicator will also be giving parents a chance to call in and enter a drawing for another historical character.
Watch for details in coming editions and online to see how you can win Samantha, a kindhearted girl of privilege living with her grandmother in 1904. This doll will be placed in the archives in May and will no longer be available for sale.
